Southampton Newfrontiers Church launches
On 22nd April 2007, Southampton church plant officially launched.
This followed months of planning and preparation - they were sent out from Winchester Family Church on 1st April (no joke!) with over 50 "members" who had committed to the plant.
Here's what leader Chris Kilby had to say about their launch:-
‘God is awesome – and being used by Him to get a brand new baby church up and running is the most amazingly privileged of adventures.
It has been exactly one year since we went public with the Southampton church plant, now known as ‘Life Church Southampton’. It has been the most amazing of years, and each time we have turned a corner, God has shown up in extraordinary ways. Some time ago I had felt from God to pray for a team of 50 to give a strong foundation to the church. We launched with 53. I had also felt to ask God to get 100 people to the launch meeting. We had just over 100 adults and about 20 children! It was such a thrill, and a good number of visitors have already signed up for an Alpha Party!
We are a church with rescue at its heart, and our programme this term includes regular evenings of outreach across the city. We have already seen fruit from these, as people have come along to the church, and one man was even saved in the high street!
Every member of the planting team has been hand picked, and the way that the body is operating together is just wonderful. New gifts are emerging, and old ones are being fanned into flame. Even the prodigals are coming home, and giving themselves to God again.
If you’ve never considered yourself a church planter – join the club! - yet God can take you, mould you, grow you, and use you. And he will if you allow him to. We have much more to do in this region and beyond, and just maybe you could be a part of seeing his kingdom established through church planting across Wessex – Go for it!’
